Unless working with computers is what you do for a living-or, unless you are just particularly gifted at programming-setting up and designing a website sounds as if it would be rather difficult. It can be pretty intimidating to a lot of people to just think about creating a website; yet more and more people these days want to do exactly that.
Luckily, there are website programs that can assist people with this process. These programs can make the process a lot less nerve-racking-and may actually make it a little bit fun along the way.
What type do you want?
When it comes to programs that can be used to create websites, there are only three different types:
HTML editors: These use HyperText Markup Language in order to develop the website. HTML is a set of rules used when working on the internet-internet browsers can read the HTML tags and know when text is supposed to be underlined or in a certain color, for example. This type of program can be used for anything involved with website creation, as there are HTML rules for every aspect of web design.
WYSIWYG editors: This stands for ‘What You See is What You Get,’ and with this type of website design program it means exactly that. The on-screen look of your website appears as you work with editing it.
HTML/WYSIWYG editors: As you might expect, these website creation programs incorporate both of the above-mentioned features. HTML coding is used for the editing, but you can also see the progress of your website as it goes along on the screen.
Choosing a Website Creation Program
There are dozens of website creation programs out on the market. It can be difficult to figure out which one will be the best for you in many cases. So, here are some things you may want to consider to help you decide:
Take a look at your website host. Some hosting providers offer some type of website editor program as a part of the package deal for which you are already paying in order to have that company as your host. While this editor may not be ideal, it may be worth checking out, at least-who knows, you could be very pleasantly surprised!
Think about your budget. There are free website creation programs-and then there are programs which cost upwards of £100. What can you afford? Many of the lower-priced and even some of the free programs are quite good; don’t assume that the program with the highest price is the best choice.
If you are the type of person who isn’t easily satisfied, you may want to go with one of the try-before-you-buy types of website creation programs. With this type of program, you will be able to give website editors a trial run before paying for them. This can be quite helpful in making your decision.
You can also ask friends of yours who own a website-find out what creation program they used, along with the pros and cons.
