pMachine has been renamed as EllisLab and thus is no longer under development. Anyway, for those who are still interested in it, pMachine is your answer to online publishing and it is certainly very flexible as well as creative and with it you can publish almost every kind of web content including from the simplest of weblogs to the most advanced as well as interactive magazines. In fact, with pMachine you are totally in control over both the way that your site looks and is presented and you also get to control the site’s interactivity.

To get it to run, your system requirements include having an application server that runs PHP as well as has MySQL database and it is sold under commercial license and you also get the complete source code and it is also available free of cost. pMachine is also generally not difficult to use while in terms of performance it does not offer things such as database replication or page caching.

As far as built-in applications go, pMachine provides blogs, discussion forums, events calendar and limited use of guest book though you won’t get things such as chat and classifieds. As far as management goes, pMachine does not provide advertising management though it does come with content scheduling and limited skins and themes. In terms of security there is limited content approval though it does provide granular privileges while there is no audit trail.

One of the support features that come with pMachine is that it includes commercial manuals and training though no commercial support or certification program. However, it does have good content syndication and also FTP support though it comes without WebDAV support and also is not WAI compliant. As far as its flexibility of use, it has CGI-mode support though there is nothing available in the commerce sphere and so, it does not have affiliate tracking or inventory management.
