Finding a development environment that is well well-configured is not always easy, particularly if the environment is intended as a large scale Web sites/ applications collaboration point. The available line-up of browser-based IDEs with impressive configurations has, however, now been enriched by the comparatively young Codio Beta.
Though still at an early stage of its development, this site is promising a bright future, complete with an interface for social coding. Similar to Git and a UX in the style of Google Docs, Codio Beta allows public projects (which can be created free of charge) to be forked with the click of a button.
Public projects will, by the way, remain free, even after Codio Beta (which is currently available free) has been finalised into a full version, at which point it will have to be paid for.
As it is, right now it is necessary to be aware of the existence of a user in order to locate his or her projects, but this is highly likely to change once the application’s social aspect has been brought into its full effect.
In any case, this handy tool offers itself as a useful project for collaboration, learning, on-the-hoof coding and much, much more.
